Spoke after the match:
“It is important to win difficult games. Athletic caused us lots of difficulties. They raised the intensity and the ball spent more time closer to our goal than we got it to theirs. But we have shown why our defensive record is so good.”... “We tried to build our confidence by creating chances and kept battling away. Barça set a high standard and want to win by scoring great goals like the first one. But we had to stick together as a team for this win."... “Messi could have scored another goal if the post hadn’t got in the way. But he’s incredible. He can make the difference at any moment. It was a spectacular goal. We’re so lucky that the best player in the world plays for us.”... “Being at San Mamés felt stranger than I’d expected. I’m used to seing Athletic v Barça from the other side. But of course I’m still delighted with the win today.”
“We knew how to battle through. We’re going away with three hard-earned points that leave us top of the table.”... “Ter Stegen is on top form. A large part of the win is down to him. He was providential. He is very much to thank for these three points. Let’s hope he keeps this up.”
“It is always important for me to give 100% and I did that today. I’m especially happy for the three points because we want to keep this winning form going.”... “It’s my job. I always try to be there for when the team needs me. And it was very important for me to be there today.”
“I am making the most of the chances that the boss gives me. Today I got the chance to score a goal and help the team.”
