Barcelona continued their record-breaking start to a La Liga season by beating Sevilla 2-1 thanks to Paco Alcacer's double on Saturday in an atmosphere at the Camp Nou marked by the political upheaval in Catalonia.
Leo Messi played his 600th game with FC Barcelona this Saturday, an extraordinary figure that only a select few have managed. The Argentine is only surpassed by Xavi and Andrés Iniesta on the podium of most matches played for the club. The No.10 was aware of the milestone, but was unable to score against his favourite opponent, Sevilla. Nonetheless, he still received the adulation of the Camp Nou public when his picture was put up on the scoreboard.
He had a handful of chances to find the net and one of them, almost at the end of the first half, was deflected away by the Andalusian defence.
Spoke after the match:
"We managed to fight to the end and defend well. These points are very important and we feel like a team. We have achieved something difficult, which is to score in almost every game"... "I'm happy with the goals, but the result is the most important thing. More than my own game, it should be noted that the team fought until the end"
"I felt good during the time I was on the pitch. It was not a very long injury. I'm happy with the three points"... "We're fine, but there are things to be improved in order to keep growing as a team. We faced a difficult team and we're happy to continue on top"
"We were spectacular for almost 35-40 minutes and we had confidence to wait for the right moment. We have to prepare well for what is coming, the calendar is tough"... "Teams dare more against us. It was one of the best matches in the League. If you win, it gives you a lot of confidence"
